About this Company
Operating as the largest container handling facility in the Caribbean, the Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) is located 32 nautical miles off the major shipping lanes of the Northern Caribbean within Kingston Harbour. Jamaica has, for centuries, been at the hub of Maritime activities in the Caribbean and Central American region with the pride of having operations within Kingston Harbour, the 7th widest and deepest natural harbour in the world. Adjacent to KFTL is the Kingston Container Terminal, which was developed by the Government of Jamaica in 1975 in response to the growth in the demand for use of containers as a means of transporting cargo and container terminals. The terminal was developed to be used primarily as a transshipment hub, based on the mother and feeder vessel concept, with a rated throughput capacity of 2.8 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU).
Through the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), the Government of Jamaica and CMA CGM, signed a 30-year Concession Agreement in which CMA CGM, through its subsidiary Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL), was given the right to develop, operate and expand the Kingston Container Terminal. Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited is positioned to be a mega-power house in the transshipment industry.
